Location: Central High School
On Saturday, August 5, 2017 @7pm in Central Theater, at Central High School, Trilogy will present the long awaited repeat performance of “Nat Turner” by the late Michael Raphael. Admission is free. “Nat Turner”, Trilogy’s first operatic production in 2004, reveals the correlations between Nat Turner’s rebellion in Virginia and the "rebellion" in Newark, NJ – Trilogy’s home. Originally directed by the late poet/playwright, Amiri Baraka, Trilogy welcomes the return of Tony Award winning actor/director Trazana Beverley ("For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf ") to direct its 2017 production of this exceptional work. Michael Raphael's "Nat Turner" uses beautiful musical numbers and arias to address specific concerns of the historic uprising. The use of opera to convey the high emotional content of this subject is a fascinating study for all. Conducted by Maestro Julius Williams, choreographed by Fiona Best, featuring Manna KnJoi as Nancy (Nat Turner's mother) and Kevin Maynor as Nat Turner.
